A pilot project in Oak Bay that will convert kitchen scraps into soil in 5- 7 weeks.
The pilot has begun with 50 Oak Bay residences receiving units by the end of August .
Each resident receives their composter and a support package that will include onsite visits as needed .
Not all 50 participants are disciples at this time . A spokesperson wrote, ‘This, in my opinion, is a good thing because it allows the process to win them over with its efficiency. They will soon realize that this is the environmental and economic alternative to shipping 1500 tonnes of kitchen scraps by barge to the mainland monthly . ‘
